VOLUNTEERS are urgently required to help the Tall Ship Pelican with its packed summer sailing programme.
Help is needed both on land and at sea and vessel staff are looking to their home port of Weymouth for assistance.
People are needed who can help with being tour guides, catering staff, engineers, carpenters, crew and with administrative support.
All voyages aboard the Pelican are one of challenge and discovery as well as relaxation and good living but it takes a substantial crew to deliver the busy schedule. Training and support will be provided.
The sailing programme includes a variety of day sails starting on May 12th.
There will be four-day Channel voyages in May and June and the Tall Ships Races in July and August and volunteers are being urged to come forward to “sail away for a day or a lifetime” or just to help when they can.
Second Mate Ben Swain said: “The Pelican specialises in long haul and shorter voyages enabling individuals to develop their talents and realise their aspirations in an environment of challenge, excitement and teamwork.
“We depend on our volunteers to help not only sail the ship but to also offer support for the many tasks which are necessary to keep us afloat. The Pelican is a registered charity so we depend on our loyal volunteers for help and support.”
The Pelican will be open tomorrow from 2-7pm on Thursday, April 22nd for anyone interested in volunteering. The ship will be berthed by Weymouth Pavilion to offer a friendly “drop in” approach where volunteers can take their time to meet the crew and discuss the opportunities available this summer.
